"Manga" (A Word means comic in Japanese) is the most famous and typical Japanese culture which most of people imagine.
Nowadays, some famous "Manga" has been translated and issued all over the world.
Today, I would like to introduce some popular Japanese Manga according to the number of copies published. From the ranking 11 to 6.
11-鉄腕アトム (Tetsuwan Atom) -100,000,000 copies approx.
Drew by the one of the most famous and greatest cartoonist in history, Osamu Tezuka.
A robot boy called "Atom" wants to be a human and he works hard to help people. Also, Atom is the first TV animation made in Japan.
11-北斗の拳 (Hokuto no Ken) -100,000,000 copies approx.
By Bronson, Tetsuo Hara. A story about Kenshiro lives in the destroyed world after atomic war. Kenshiro and his battle against rivals.
Peculiarity onomatopoeias and his touching of drawing was striking to people.
11-タッチ (Touch) -100,000,000 copies approx.
By Mitsuru Adachi, a youth story about twins who play baseball club at school, and their childhood friend girl. The heroine called Minami, is one of the typical and ideal character among boys.
10-美味しんぼ(Oishinbo) -111,200,000 copies approx.
The most famous comics about food created by Tetsu Karina, Akira Hanasaki. Although most of "Manga" is about battle, journey, or story about the hero, this long seller story is about food.
The hero Yamaoka is a journalist, he looks like a typical Japanese "Salary-man", which means a business person. This story is about his journey to find the finest dish. His journey has been keep going over 30 years.
9-SLAM DUNK -120,000,000 copies approx.
The most famous basketball comic by Takehiko Inoue. This story made huge number of student to join basketball club. The main character, Hanamichi Sakuragi, was a rough kid at school, but after joining a basket ball club, he and his teammates had grown to strong team.
8-NARUTO -131,000,000 copies approx.
This comic is famous in Japan of course, but more famous in overseas probably.
The story about Naruto becoming a great Ninja throughout battles. This is one typical image of Ninja which many foreigners have.
7-名探偵コナン (Detective Conan) -150,000,000 copies approx.
"Meitantei" means a great detective. The name of the boy "Conan" comes from Conan Doyle. Conan is a high school student and smart enough to solve murder cases, but he accidentally became a witness of mysterious organization trading, he was caught by men in black.They forced Conan to be released instead of taking a toxic pill and his body shrieked to a kid.
Conan solves a lot of crime cases and tries to beat them back.
6-こちら葛飾区亀有公園前派出所こちら葛飾区亀有公園前派出所 (Kochikame) -156,500,000 copies approx.
Obviously one of the longest titled comic. The original title means "Here's a police box near Kameari park, Katsushika-ku" or something.
It is called "こち亀(Kochi-kame)", which is collapsed sound of the original title.
What the most characteristic of this story is that this story concludes every week (about 20 pages). And it continues 40 years at "Weekly Shonen Jump".
The hero Kankichi Ryotsu is a policeman at the box, as the title says, the story happens to people around a police box, however, this story is seldom about the police and their activity. The main subjects or topics are happenings he causes anywhere.
The style is very unique and incredibly it has continued of 40 years.
